Good practices to fight social isolation amid the COVID-19 pandemic

Therapeutic Activities and Social Engagement Call Support was developed for people living with dementia and their family carers who attended day-care prior to COVID-19. It was developed in response to the cessation of dementia services and to meet need in the absence of usual day care supports.

This service seeked to address needs and mitigate issues arising from the temporary closure of day care, recognising that a lack of activity opportunities can result in responsive behaviours, boredom, loneliness, and the need for mental and social stimulation while reducing carer stress.

The aim of the service is to engage with the client and family carer either through a social engagement call and /or a variety of activities disseminated, which are stimulating and varied to maintain well-being.
